I have all 3 Stalkers and every single one is awesome. Graphics rock and game play is unlimited. No way anyone can finish this game in one day or 24 hrs. The game is humongous.
And the enemies are armored so that it can take more than a full clip to kill one - unless you aim for the head, but good luck hitting that while there are several of them moving and gunning you down. Maybe there was a certain mindset I should have had - and I do enjoy a variety of games, even games that aren't conventional or are different. At the end of the game I decided to use a cheat mod to give me unlimited health and radiation resistance - it was the only way I could get through the end with any semblance of entertainment. I did enjoy the shooting (as I do with most FPS's) up to a point.
I chose to do one, which happened to be the one that's the end of the game. But at a point, you die in just a few shots, from a sniper that you can hardly see, and when you try to snipe at him - you die - reload your last save. Or you are moving through a building with a dozen enemies and you have to move towards them in order to see them in order to shoot them, of course, but when you move into their line of sight - they shoot you of course, and some of them flank you so you can't take cover from them, and you can't shoot while moving cause of the guns' (realistic) inaccuracy - so you either have to take forever to wait until the guys move into the area where you're aiming or its die-reload, die-reload. Note - possible spoilers:It looks like there was potential with this game, and it got decent reviews, so I decided to play through it. There are multiple endings depending on your actions through the game, but NONE of them would have made sense in my situation. I turned the difficulty down to Novice but it was still not fun.
And - you aren't required to figure out the story to "finish" the game. I had two objectives in my task list.
So finishing the game was not entertaining. I tried to enjoy it but it got in its own way, if that makes sense.
If I had chosen the other (find the Doc character), I would have found out my character's history and understood the story more - but I had no way of knowing that this other objective would have been better, and it was not required. Its like the AI is set to too difficult.
Pure realism is not fun, because a dozen enemies certainly have an advantage over one person. So at the end I had never got any info from the Doc character, and I saw an ending movie that made almost no sense.
I've since looked up the story online, and it would have been more entertaining if I had known which quests to follow to reveal it.So that was my experience - I was disappointed and I don't understand why this game has been positively received.
IVE HAD THIS ON MY DRIVE SINCE THE DAY IT CAME OUT AND U DONT NEED TO PUT ON A DISK IN TO DRIVE IT JUST CLICK ON AND AWAY YOU GO ITS WORTH ALL THE PAIN IN THE NECK INVOLVED HICKUPS AND STUFF ON AND OFF I PLAY IT ITS SHEER GENUIS TO ME BIOSHOCK, HALF LIFE I COULD BARELY PLAY LITTLE BIT I DID OR WASTED TIME WITH STEAM IS A PAIN IN THE NECK ITS ALWAYS DRAINING YOUR RESOURCES ALWAYS INTERRUPTING TALKING ABOUT SPYWARE BIP SHOCK BORES THE PANTS OFF ME KINDA LIKE DOOM 3 NO WHERE TO GO BUT ANOTHER IDENTICAL ROOM. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is an excellent experience that's somewhat marred by bugs. The gameplay is a bit on the average side; realistic gun recoil certainly helps it out quite a bit. In terms of performance, though, the game could get a bit laggy at times, although I didn't notice it too often. The one major problem this game has is the bugs. The AI is also excellent; animals and humans alike act realistically. It seemed that using the last save feature had a higher chance of corrupting a saved game that just loading the game normally. The plot was fairly entertaining. The atmosphere of the game is excellent; you really feel like you're in the Zone. Sound wise, the game also delivers.
Graphically, the game is pretty decent; the Zone is certainly very detailed. The cutscene graphics are also excellent. Towards the end of the game, I had to have 5 saved games out of fear that one of my others would be corrupted, although this was the one of the few times my saves actually got corrupted. Aside from that, I didn't notice any major bugs. All in all, Shadow of Chernobyl is a solid experience from beginning to end.
I've played HL2, Bioshock, Oblivion, Dragon Age, and the list goes on and on. There is NO emotional involvement what so ever. As far as the apocalyptic feel to the game, it seems poorly created. I also enjoy how the weapons display the various damage, handling, ect. It is simply a decent game. The graphics quality in the game seem subpar, maybe i have been spoiled by bioshock and Oblivion, who knows. Ok first off i've played a TON of games, so this is not the first time dipping into pc games. I like the variety of rifles you can find in the game.
You have to go and load into different areas, which i consider to detract from the free roam. Nothing like, oh i should help this person, or man i want to kill that guy so bad, it's more like, oh i have to kill this guy, oh i have to find a gun, very uninspiring. As for the good. Overall the game is a decent game, and if you can get this game for like $15 i would pick it up. The quests in this game also feel EXTREMELY uneventful. I can say first off that i don't consider this a BAD game. that the weapon does.
I can make a map and add baren areas with broken down cars and a few wood shacks and it would hardly feel apocalyptic. Half the time i've been playing the game (i'm about 20 hours into the game), i have no idea what i'm supposed to be doing, i just look at the map and see where the arrow is pointing me. I also enjoy that it is such a large game, HOWEVER it is not a open world like oblivion. But by any means don't expect a exciting or thrilling adventure
